Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital

Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital of New York-Presbyterian (CHONY〔(Columbia-Presbyterian General Surgery Applicant Page ). Vesta.cumc.columbia.edu. Retrieved on 2013-09-07.〕) is a leading pediatric hospital in New York City. Located at 3939 Broadway at West 165th Street in the Washington Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, New York City, it is a part of New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Columbia University Medical Center. The hospital is named after financial firm Morgan Stanley who largely funded its construction.
==History==
Although the hospital traces its roots to the establishment of Columbia University's – then King's College – Department of Pediatrics in 1767, it was officially founded as Babies' Hospital in 1887. It is consistently ranked as one of the nation's best children's hospitals.
One of the first children's hospitals in the United States, the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital has been the site of many pediatric medical breakthroughs. Hospital physicians were the first to identify the difference between celiac disease and cystic fibrosis, and to develop the sweat test for cystic fibrosis. Other achievements include the first description of persistent fetal circulation syndrome, the development of continuous positive alveolar pressure (CPAP) as a treatment for premature infants, the creation of the Apgar score and the performance of the world's first pediatric heart transplant.
Today, the Morgan Stanley Children's Hospital is ranked among the top ten pediatric hospitals in the country and the only children's hospital in New York City to be named an Honor Roll hospital by U.S. News and World Report in 2010. The hospital provides leading care in all pediatric specialties, and is internationally recognized for its expertise in pediatric heart surgery.〔(Best Children’s Hospitals 2012-13: The Honor Roll - US News and World Report ). The hospital's physicians serve as the pediatrics department of the Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons.
The hospital is named after financial firm Morgan Stanley in recognition of the firms sponsorship of the hospital and with help from CEO and benefactor, John Mack
